In order to operate a Drone/UAS on Columbia University property, the operator must provide specific information—dependant on your relationship to the University—to the Insurance and Risk Management department at [email protected].
Students, Faculty Members, Researchers, and Employees
Students, faculty members, researchers, and employees must:
- Provide an explanation outlining the purpose, agenda, personnel involved, time/date start/end, requirements, and other logistics in operating the UAS/Drone
- Be aware of and in compliance with all city, state and federal laws governing the use of UAS/Drones
- Be 21 years of age
Outside Vendors Only
Outside vendors must:
- Provide a contract showing insurance and indemnification language as well as an explanation outlining the purpose, agenda, personnel involved, time/date start/end, requirements, and other logistics in operating the UAS/Drone
- Provide proof of General Liability Insurance (Primary and Umbrella/Excess), Auto, WC, and Professional Liability (if applicable) insurance
- Provide a Certificate of Insurance naming The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York as an additional insured under the General Liability Policy with a minimum of $5.0 M limits (a minimum of $1.0 M primary CGL and the remainder Umbrella/Excess) written on an occurrence basis
- Provide an Agreement to defend and indemnify Columbia University in the event of an accident resulting from the commercial user’s (vendor) negligence; and an Agreement that any available insurance Columbia may have in the event of an accident will be excess and non-contributory to the vendor’s policy
- Provide proof of experience in operating a UAS/Drone of any size
- Be aware of and in compliance with all city, state and federal laws governing the use of UAS/Drones
- Be 21 years of age
