The Procurement Process at Columbia

Class Time: 3.5 hours


Course Description

This overview session will describe the procurement process at the University, including the various systems, departments involved (Purchasing Office, Accounts Payable, Office of the Controller), and important procedural issues. The session will also provide an overview of the University and governmental policies, compliance issues, and procedures that govern the purchase of supplies, capital equipment, and consultant services as well as payment options, and various other accounts payable concerns.  In short, students will learn the procurement flow at Columbia, from requisition to check payment and post auditing and accounting procedures.

This class is designed to provide an important foundation for all procurment activity at the University and is a pre-requisite for Using FFE for Purchasing Requisitions and Using AP/CAR.  You should also sign up for the Travel & Business Expense Reimbursements class.

Who Should Attend            

This class is mainly targeted to Departmental Administrators, Business Managers, Financial Assistants and DAF approvers who need to understand Columbia’s procurement process.  However, all Columbia staff are invited to attend.
