Hiring
The following information is designed to assist managers in fulfilling some of the administrative requirements associated with the new hire process, promotions, staffing plans, and transfers of current employees. Please see your local HR office for hiring any of the following:
Full-Time/ Part-time Employees
When a new position is created or a vacancy occurs, the departmental manager should contact the local HR office. We will work with you on creating job descriptions, evaluating positions for appropriate title and grade level within the organization, and assist in developing strategies for recruiting and selecting the best candidates.
Temporary Workers
Veritude provides a vendor-neutral Managed Services Program (MSP) for temporary staffing at Columbia University. Veritude manages the procurement and administrative processes associated with the hiring of all temporary employees as well as providing simplified ordering, timekeeping, billing and management reporting through web based tools. Temporary employment is usually limited to a maximum of 560 hours in a rolling twelve-month period.
Casual Workers
Casual workers may be taken on from time to time for short periods to fulfill specific requirements. Short-term casual employment is usually limited to a maximum of 560 hours in a rolling twelve-month period.
Student Workers
Student workers are qualified undergraduates and graduate students for full- and part-time employment and internships that can be employed on and off Columbia’s campuses.
Work-Study
The Federal Work-Study Program is designed to promote part-time employment for students who are in need of earnings to help finance their education. Work-Study students are qualified undergraduate and graduate students that can be employed for part-time employment and internships.
